In Brief
The State of Tamil Nadu and others sought review of a December 2, 2015 Supreme Court judgment in criminal matters. The review petitions were filed 208 days (in 2016) and 358 days (in 2017) after the original judgment. The Court dismissed all review petitions, holding that the substantial unexplained delay itself was grounds for dismissal. The Court further found no error apparent on the record warranting reconsideration. Review petitions, the Court reaffirmed, require satisfactory explanation for any delay and can only succeed if an error on the face of the record is identified.
