In Brief
The State of Goa and Vedanta Limited filed review petitions challenging a February 2018 Supreme Court judgment in Goa Foundation v. Sesa Sterlite, seeking to reopen the case. However, the Court dismissed all review petitions because they were filed 20-26 months after the original judgment, far exceeding the 30-day statutory deadline under the Supreme Court Rules, 2013. The Court also noted the petitions were filed suspiciously soon after the original judges' retirements and were filed without cogent grounds. The Court found no legitimate grounds for review on the merits either, dismissing the petitions entirely.
