In Brief
A respondent working as a daily wager chawkidar (security guard) had his services terminated in 1986 after less than one year of employment. The State of U.P. appealed against an order directing reinstatement. The Supreme Court held that since the respondent was not appointed through regular employment exchange procedures and had worked only briefly, reinstatement with back wages was inappropriate. Instead, the Court directed the State to pay Rs. 1 lakh as full and final compensation. The appeal was partly allowed, with finality imposed on further litigation regarding the matter.
