Candidates challenged this in the High Court, which set aside the results. The Supreme Court upheld that the scaling method violated its prior Sanjay Singh judgment, which permitted scaling only for optional subjects, not compulsory ones. However, the Court declined to order fresh results, finding that the Commission had followed established practice, benefited from prior judicial approval, and selected candidates had worked for a decade without any alleged irregularities. The appointments were therefore preserved despite the methodological error.
