In Brief
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission rejected a request to provide seven additional candidates from a wait-list for Sub Deputy Inspector of Schools positions after a delay of nearly three years. The Supreme Court held that wait-lists for recruitment are valid for only one year, and the period should be computed from the date of the first substantive recommendation of candidates (156 posts in 2010), not from later supplementary recommendations. Since the request was made in 2013—beyond the one-year window—it was rightfully rejected. The High Court's judgment allowing the writ petition was overturned.
