In Brief
Following India's bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, the road transport corporation was split into two entities. Class III and IV employees from regions that fell within Telangana were temporarily posted to Andhra Pradesh zones. When the corporation issued repatriation orders returning them to their original Telangana zones, the High Court initially quashed the orders, then reversed itself, directing permanent allocation to the Andhra Pradesh posts by analogy with rules for government employees. The Supreme Court held that PSU employees are governed by Section 82 (not Section 77), which permits corporations to determine allocation. Since these employees were recruited regionally and belonged to Telangana regions, they must be allocated to Telangana, regardless of temporary postings. The Court allowed the repatriation orders.
