This case concerns the lapse of land acquisition proceedings initiated under pre-2013 law following the enactment of The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The Court held that where compensation has not been paid to landowners and the State has used the entire acquired land, the prior proceedings lapse. The State must initiate fresh proceedings under the 2013 Act within six months; failure to do so extinguishes any claim over the disputed land.
