In Brief
Delhi Development Authority's appeal challenging the dismissal of land acquisition proceedings was dismissed by the Supreme Court. However, recognising the authority's interest, the Court granted DDA a one-year period to reinitiate acquisition proceedings afresh under Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. If fresh proceedings are not initiated within this timeframe by issuing a notification, DDA must return physical possession of the land to the original owner.
