In Brief
The Delhi Development Authority sought to continue land acquisition proceedings against Vivek and others. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeals, holding that the issue was governed by prior judicial precedent. However, the Court exercised discretion to grant the Authority one year from the judgment date to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, by issuing a fresh notification. If no such fresh proceedings are initiated within that year and the Authority retains possession, it must return the land to the original owners.
