The Delhi Development Authority appealed against the dismissal of its earlier land acquisition appeals. The Supreme Court found the legal principle settled against the authority by prior judgments and dismissed these appeals. However, recognizing the peculiar circumstances, the Court granted the authority a one-year grace period to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 24(2) of the RFCTLARR Act, 2013 by issuing a notification. If no such proceedings are started within one year, the authority must return physical possession of the land to the original owner.
