The Government of NCT of Delhi challenged orders relating to land acquisition proceedings under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeals, holding that the legal issues were already settled by binding precedent against the appellants. However, the Court exercised discretion to grant the Government one year to reinitiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 24(2) of the 2013 Act. If no fresh notification is issued within that period, the Government must return physical possession of the land to the original owners.
