Jagdish Prasad Verma (D) By Lrs. & Ors vs State of M.P. & Ors

Bench: 2 — Anil R. Dave

In Brief

This case concerned the adequacy of compensation awarded to land owners in what appears to be a land acquisition matter. The trial court had awarded Rs. 20/- per square foot but reduced it further by one-third. The Supreme Court found this amount grossly inadequate compared to the circle rate (government-assessed property value). The Court enhanced the compensation to Rs. 40/- per square foot without any deduction, and directed that statutory benefits also be paid to the land owners within four months. The appeal was allowed.
