Postman Vengaisamy and others were convicted of murder (Sections 148, 302 read with 149 IPC) in the death of Chinnaperiaiyah during a violent assault on 26 April 2003. The appeal challenged the credibility of eyewitnesses Irulandi (son of deceased) and Ramar, arguing contradictions proved dishonesty. The Supreme Court held that the legal maxim 'falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus' has no application in Indian law. Minor contradictions arising from perception and time do not reject entire witness testimony if credibility remains intact. The Court found oral testimony corroborated by medical evidence and prior motive (attack on 8 April 2003), confirming the common object of the unlawful assembly. The appeal was dismissed.
