The Supreme Court clarified the status of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) weightage in teacher recruitment for Uttar Pradesh. The High Court had invalidated the 2012 amendment to state recruitment rules as conflicting with central NCTE guidelines. The Supreme Court reversed this, holding that the NCTE notification suggesting TET weightage is merely a guideline, not mandatory. Since there is no genuine conflict between the state rules and central norms, the amended rules are valid and do not violate constitutional provisions regarding concurrent subjects. The State may proceed with recruitment accordingly.
