S. Sundara Kumar, convicted by the Special Court under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for offences under Sections 7, 12(2), and 13(1)(d), appealed against his sentence of two years rigorous imprisonment confirmed by the High Court. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction but found the sentence excessive. It reduced the sentence to one year and one month rigorous imprisonment while maintaining the fine, holding that the ends of justice would be adequately served by the lesser term. The appeal was partly allowed.
