Four men attacked a goggle seller, Sarfraj, at a dhaba. One accused stabbed him with a knife in the neck, while the others held his arms. Sarfraj died from the injury. The trial court convicted one for murder, but acquitted the others. The High Court reversed the acquittal and convicted all four for murder. The Supreme Court held that while the attack was proven and all four assisted, it was a sudden, unpremeditated fight arising from a business dispute—not a planned murder. The Court converted all convictions from murder (Section 302) to culpable homicide not amounting to murder (Section 304 Part II) and released them after crediting time served."
