Varun Kumar Gupta vs Om Prakash

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

A landlord appealed against an eviction order, seeking immediate possession of the rented premises from the tenant. The Supreme Court, acting on its own suggestion, secured the landlord's agreement to grant reasonable time for vacation. The Court disposed of the appeals by fixing 31 December 2020 as the deadline for the tenant to surrender vacant possession and requiring an undertaking to that effect. The tenant was permitted to continue paying the monthly rent of Rs. 1,102 during this extended period.
