Vishnu vs State of Rajasthan & Anr

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

Vishnu was arrested in December 2015 and held in custody for over a year facing serious charges including rioting and causing grievous hurt. The underlying dispute arose from a disagreement over the use of firecrackers with no deeper animosity between parties. With trial only recently commenced and minimal evidence examined, the Supreme Court granted bail on Rs. 10,000 bond with two sureties, ordering the appellant to cooperate with trial proceedings and refrain from witness intimidation. The State retains the right to cancel bail for non-compliance.
