Vishnu vs State of Rajasthan & Anr

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

Vishnu appealed against his detention in a criminal case registered under IPC Sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 341, 324, 325, 307 arising from a dispute over firing of crackers. He had been in custody since December 2015, and the trial had commenced with only one witness examined. The Supreme Court held that given the trivial nature of the dispute and early stage of trial, bail should be granted. The Court ordered his release on furnishing bail bonds of Rs. 10,000 with two sureties of equivalent amount, subject to cooperation with trial and non-interference with witnesses. The appeal was allowed and disposed of."
