Yengkhom Surchandra Singh & Anr vs Hon’ble Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly & Ors

Bench: 3 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The Supreme Court allowed Civil Appeals by four elected members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly who faced disqualification orders from the Speaker. The Court found that the disqualification orders were based on similar grounds previously examined in a related lead matter. Consequently, the Court set aside the orders and remitted the disqualification applications to the Speaker for fresh reconsideration in accordance with law. Pending the Speaker's fresh decision, the appellants retained their right to represent their constituencies in the Assembly. The Court also requested the Speaker to dispose of the applications expeditiously.
