Homeopathic and Ayurvedic medical colleges in Maharashtra challenged a mid-process change to BHMS admission eligibility criteria requiring NEET percentile scores (50% for open category, 40% for reserved). The Ministry of AYUSH altered the criteria via letter dated 11 June 2018, after NEET results were declared and online registration had begun based on original criteria published in February 2018. The colleges argued seats would remain vacant. The High Court dismissed the challenge. The Supreme Court allowed the appeals, holding that eligibility criteria cannot be unilaterally altered during an ongoing admission process. Colleges were permitted to admit students based on the original published criteria, with colleges directed to hold extra classes to meet minimum working day requirements.
