In Brief
The Delhi Development Authority appealed against the rejection of its land acquisition proceedings. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, holding that the issue was already settled by two prior judgments. Under Section 24(2) of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, the DDA was granted six months to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings by issuing a fresh notification. If it failed to do so within this period, it was required to return physical possession of the land to the rightful owner. The judgment ensures that land cannot remain in a state of limbo and balances the authority's rights with the landowner's interests.
